Since 1990 I have advised and supported governments, international agencies and private corporations grappling with practical and policy issues in governance, accountability, performance measurement and evaluation, corporate strategy, institutional development and corporate social responsibility.

My work has ranged from the nuts and bolts of results-based management, to the nuances of managing accountability relationships within governance arrangements, to trends and practices in corporate social responsibility, to the governance challenges of international development assistance. Much of what I have shared with and learned from my clients over the years has been captured in my publications.

I have an eclectic professional background, having served as:

Director, Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility, at The Conference Board of Canada, where I managed a team of researchers and spearheaded the development and launching of The Directors College, Canada's first comprehensive program of professional development for corporate directors. 

Director, Institute On Governance, where I built a practice in governance, accountability, public-sector performance measurement and corporate responsibility.

Institutional Development Specialist at the World Bank, where I worked to support the strengthening of public sector institutions in developing countries.

Staff Reporter, The Wall Street Journal , where I covered major business developments in Canada.

Staff Reporter, United Press International, in its bureaus in Johannesburg, South Africa and London, England.

I have a BA (philosophy) from Yale University, an LL.B. from Oxford University, and an MBA from the University of Ottawa .
